Default Did your property taxes go down?

Over the summer in our neighborhood in Cascade Township, they re-appraised our house to make sure everything is according to their records. Yesterday we got a letter in the mail and our taxable value dropped $10,000. So our taxes will drop slightly. I asked my neighbor about it...their taxes went up slightly because they finished off their basement (they took out permits with the township).

We've been in our house since 2004 when we had it built.

I'm just wondering if this is the norm.
