I've never seen IndoChina Gardens, where is it located, and do they have Crab Rangoons (if not, it's a deal breaker). Is it in the old Flame restaurant, by chance? I ate there once and it was INCREDIBLE, but I thought it had closed. If it's still open I must go there! A design scheme is just what is needed downtown. I hope the businesses are cooperative in this effort.

Mo~I'm wondering if I know you. I am 33, graduated in 1993. Do you feel like sharing your name? If not that's ok, but I'll bet I know you!

the old Flame restaurant is exactly where it is
I am not sure if they have Crab Rangoons?!....I hope they do so you can check them out
they are closed one day a week and i think it might be mondays, but i am not positive......
And the design scheme, i think most businesses would comply, but i guess we'll just have to find out....I've gone to some of the DDA meetings and City council meetings (with the older council not this new better one) and there are some real stubborn negative people in the community so i guess you just never know!

ShabbyChick I'm with Northman - you misinterpreted his comments and then were somewhat rude.
Some people like quiet. That doesn't mean that they are anti-anything. They should be able to have someplace to live with people calling them names for liking what they've got.

Gypsy 14, I actually live here. It's a very economically depressed area. Nothing is selling, house wise, so you could probably find a good deal on a house here. Jobs are hard to come by, in the summer you can work in the tourist shops in Mackinaw City. Best bet is health care but the hospital has its problems, too. The good jobs go to locals, by that I mean the people born and raised here, who went to high school here and have married in the community. I've lived here for 30 years, have my own business but things are in the can and I'm out of here myself in another year or so. We are making our plans now. The cost of living is low, I do have to say that much. I think the schools are about average, I used to work for them and didn't like how the jocks and the straight A students were the only ones the administrators cared about. If you have a child who is special needs or has some sort of problem, don't come here. Wish I had better news for you. The crime rate is pretty non existant, a bloody murder every 10 years that gets everyone all excited, a few break ins, especially in the winter. Not much, though, mostly criminal sexual assaults (child molester type things) and DUIs and drug use type crimes. You can walk the streets safely at night.

Just happened to be in Cheboygan today..........had lunch at Mulligans. Love that place.
They have more snow than we do over here in Petoskey. Was kinda suprised by that.
If it wasn't so far from the hospital in Petoskey where I work, I'd consider living in Cheboygan. The river is beautiful, the downtown is quaint, the neighborhoods peaceful.......the houses VERY affordable. Great proximity to Mullet and Black Lakes, Lake Huron, plus Mackinaw City & Bridge.
I understand it's a sleepy, financially strapped town. Whatever......I've sure as hell seen a lot worse. They do good with what they have.

I agree, Mulligan's is great! One of the best things to happen to this town! I didn't mean to run down the town on my last post, just trying to be honest. There are good things up here and the fact that you can actually afford a house is a good thing. It is quiet, busier in the summer but gosh, you can cross Main Street on foot at least. We do try, they have put in a new marina, the museum works hard to document what has been Cheboygan's history, the hospital is constantly updating, etc. Just that there's not enough people/money to do things fast. And if we did do things fast, well, it wouldn't be a sleepy little town anymore, now, would it?

I would not give you two cents for Cheboygan. its a pit of a town and known as the arm pit of michigan by locals. It is one of the poorest county's in the state, and have never been able to come back in the down town area. Nothing to do there but eat chinese. LOL
