destination is on a distinguished road
stupid people building homes they can not afford or should not, more of the "free market" mentality.
This is why letting big business run the country is not going to work. the end of the cheap oil party is almost over, a long slow down side is about to aproach, bush trying to pray his way out of things he can not understand which is almost everything is not going to help.
I hope Obama gets in and really does try to change things. I wish gore had not had the election stolen from him. Maybe we would have an energy polocy and not a pres. dancing and kissing the arss of the saudies.

Wow, living in Michigan with no heat huh? Must be tough on the water pipes isn't it? Even insulated generally wont stand up to 20 below.

Careful on the move to the south, not only will you not save much on energy but you will have to live beside a Jeff Foxworthy joke day in and day out!
We're happy to be moving back up north, Soo area, and wont look back after ten years in hillbilly heaven!

To top it all off my hubby is a wimp (from Chicago) and claimed he was "freezing" this morning...this is the same man who would have the AC down to 65 during the summer if I let him....men are such babies lol
That's because you live in a desert climate. It's hot during the day and can be ice cold at night.
I was born and raised in NW Mi. But I lived in the Mojave Desert in SoCal for over 35 years.

This is a very interesting thread. You might even call it educational.
Like I've mentioned, I was born and raised on a small Dairy farm in NW Mi, (Cadillac).(Selma Township)
I'm not going to explain why we left, because it's a long story. I will say that due to the death of our Mother and the age of us kids....it wasn't optional. Some may wonder that with with all of our relatives in MI,why did we have to leave? That's where the long story comes in.
Back to the topic.

I lived in MI, in the 50's and 60's. I remember during the winter, almost every house had 2 propane tanks strapped against it and plastic storm windows and doors.
Also back then, with winter we got snow....and alot of it. Layers of snow on your roof helped instulate the house.
I don't recall hearing anyone complain about the weather, most of the time if there was a problem( too cold,,too hot) people just made adjustments.

No firewood is free unless someone dumped it at your door steps, otherwise you still have to consider the gas for operating the chainsaw and hauling it.
After living in the dry desert heat for over 35years, I now live i SW OK. All 4 seasons are back and last winter was mild. but I found that leaving the heat off at night and using extra blankets that obsorb body heat is nice and cosy and with the thermostst set 75 on Auto, it kept my heating bill down to around $80.00
And it does get pretty cold here at night in the winter.
