You want a list of nice places to live anywhere in Michigan? I am not sure Citydata has enough capacity to hold such a list. Most of the Cities, towns villiages and townships in ichigan are nice places to live. A few are not. You might want to be more specific. For example, since you posted in the Detroit threads, I assume you are not interested in learning about towns in Marquette County (10 hour drive from Detroit).

Are you looking in the Detroit area? What kind of "nice" do you want? Small town, urban ish, a downtown, shopping malls, subdivisions, neighborhoods, rural, suburban, rich, upper middle class, middle middle, blue collar, do you want water, good schools, great schools, excellent schools, dont care about schools, do you care about diversity (hope not we do nto have much of that), liberal, conservative, don't care, does traffic/crowds bother you, do you like to eat out, do you like micycling, boating, hunting, bowling, cars, horses, . . . . Lots of questions the answers to which would help people give you more meaningful guidance.

That still doesn't narrow the search down very much. Most of MI would fit your description. What area of the state is the job going to be in? That is the single most important question before anything else can be addressed. The perfect town isn't so perfect if it is 8 or 10 hours away from the job location. Every corner of MI you can find good safe places to raise kids with good schools and the outdoors close by.

I live in Milford Michigan and travel up north as often as I can. The first thing that pooped into my head when I read your post was " who wouldn't like living in Michigan?" But truthfully Michigan is not for everyone. People who do not like 4 seasons, an abundance of lakes, green everywhere, good people can be found just about everywhere. Not to knock the area's you named, but personally I would not or could not ever bring myself to live in those area's. Too much traffic for me. I'll always stay in an area with more open land, less houses and more nature. But that is just me.
I've lived here for 45 years, born and raised. Not sure how long it takes to occur, or even how it works from person to person. But others have mentioned S.A.D and last year I found out I was suffering from it. I may have had more mild cases over the years I'm not sure. But 2000mg of vitamin D a day kicked it out of me. Been taking it daily since. We'll see how I do this year. It was not a good experience. But it can be beat so don't let it scare you off. Also in regards to winter. Personally January and February are the crap months IMO. November and December are not bad and March you start to get some warm up. But those two months........ if I could escape.......

Funny how different people are. To me, the awful months are Novemebr and March. I like snow. I like a crisp cold day if it is not windy and relatively dry. However when everything is dead and it is simply cold wet and windy, I am miserable. March has the addded agony of the cold just lasting too long. I usually love January and February. That is when we finally get some snow. The days are frequently clear and windless and it is not wet or muddy, except for one week of February where we alsmot always get a warm up.

However this winter, much of November was very nice. Some of it was very warm (as in coatless warm). I think some plants were still alive at the beginning of December. Then we ahd that early warm spell. This winter did nto raeally count. Everything was conkywumpus.

You would probably be looking to live in metro Detroit if you plan to work in Madison Heights, that leaves a lot of different choices in types of places to live. If you can narrow down what you are looking for in a city/town (housing cost/type, good nightlife, good schools, family oriented, young adult oriented, etc.) many posters can hep you figure out a few good places to start looking into.

I Love January and February. If you ask me these are the best of winter, and really...the only REAL winter months anymore it seams. Even though it snows in March, you can feel the Spring...so I dont mind it. I hate the upper 30's , rainy...drizzly..foggy..muddy days of Winter. I'll take snow and temps in the mid 20's all winter long!
