Fell in love with Ontonagon, Chassell and Houghton. Can't seem to find reliable information on Federal, State and Property taxes. I know I used a "dirty" word and I do apologize and would appreciate your help.

Hey there. I can't tell ya about the taxes cuz I dunno lol. The fed. and state tax, I assume, all hinders on how many ya claim. And, from checking upmls dot com, property taxes vary from town to town....city to city. They don't seem too bad up here though?!? Anywho, I'm sure you'll love the UP I've heard Ontonagon is in the middle of nowhere land and gets hammered with snow but, by looking out my window (LOL) it can't be much worse than here. I dunno if you'd be looking for work but, I was told there's not much around the Ontonagon area. Of course, a lot of people say that about all of the UP LOL. As for property taxes though, my only suggestion would be to check out the areas you're interested in on upmls dot com. That website covers it all

Michigan actually has a property tax estimator website.
https://treas-secure.state.mi.us/pte...TEstimator.asp
You have to know what your school district will be, though, because sometimes the tax rate of neighboring school districts varies quite a bit.
Welcome to da U.P. !!!
By the way, I've discovered UPMLS.com doesn't cover every Realtor in the U.P. For instance, Menominee county is covered by Wisconsin MLS. Also, there are a number of small agencies in some of these towns who have only one or two agents and can't afford to belong to an MLS. Realtor.com or Trulia are good overall real estate search engines also

You have seen it in the winter, right? Went to school at MTU. Snow hits in October and isn't gone until May. Area seems nice but I was always glad to see the lower peninsula again..

I have to agree with Sparrow_temp, the areas you mentioned (Houghton, Ontonagon, and Chassel) are all in the heart of the Lake Superior snow belt.
Of the three towns, though, I think you'll find the most reasonable Real Estate in the Ontonagon, Mass City, Greenland area. White Pine, a former copper mining company town not far from Ontonagon, has some real steals on homes.

Thank you for all of your help! Yes, we have been in Ontonagon in the winter. The snow was beautiful. Had a taste of a big "white out" and know how bad the winters can get. Love to snowmobile so that will help.
