I will weigh in again. I am originally from LA and moved here to Michigan. People in Michigan have a strong Michigan identity. If you are from here, you might not realize it.

Michigan is a state where there are a lot of traditions. U of M/Spartans football, hockey, going to the cider mill, Pasties, Sweetest Day, going "Up North", intrastate vacationing, cherry festival, tulip festival, cars, dialects, hunting, islands, music, symbol, border state, maritime culture, and most of all, its geography of being kind of a stand alone state...etc. There is a definite culture to Michigan. That being said, people in Michigan are very humble and do not look down at anyone else (except Ohio State...but its merely sports rivalry)

We lived in MI for 5 years (A2 and Northville) and loved it. It was a great place with great people and I was fortunate to get my start there.

My comment was a response to a previous poster, not to the list.

As I sat at Empire beach today on a beautiful, warm sunny afternoon with the amazing colors of Lake Michigan in front of me, and incredible views of the massive dunes on either side, I couldn't help but think that list or no list, Michigan is one amazing state!
