Romney
I'm new here--and djacques so eloquently plucked the words right from my cranium---how well put--I wasn't even aware growing up that Romney Sr. had son -"Mitt", but then again, he went to Cranbrook Schools in priveleged Bloomfield Hills, and later on to become CEO, and then magically appears to profess his heart-felt desire to rescue Michigan. It was not only a totally stupid statement, it just pisses me off that he assumes the "little guy" will buy into his lies for votes. What a creep.

Since politicians typically just tell you what they think you want to hear when campaigning -- you have to discover their core beliefs by the sum of their past actions and positions. This typically puts them in either a conservative or liberal political category. It's a much better indicator of what they will do in the future. If character were an issue for most people -- Bill Clinton would have never have gotten a second term and his wife wouldn't be on the ballot.

I'm not sure that's true. McCain did not resort to lying to sell himself. He spoke the truth about the jobs. They are not coming back.
Romney especially is truly a concern for me. He set himself up as a moderate/liberal for Massachusetts and got elected. However, he turned against the state in order to pursue his higher ambition, not to mention changing his mind about practically everything. You never turn on those that support you just because there is something better, no matter what your belief.
I think Romney is probably the worst candidate out there for the office.

Well you also have to judge who you want as a new President on factors other than putting them in "liberal or conservative" categories. Some of the candidates are fiscally conservative, but socially liberal, and vice versa. Only the national parties want you to believe that if you are part of xxx party, there is no reason for you to vote for a candidate in yyy party.
But I'm with the OP on this one. I had never heard of Romney in my 35+ years of living in Michigan, and suddenly he sells himself as "the native son" and practically ran for governor of Michigan instead of the Republican Primary. If he ever gets elected, Michiganians are going to be standing around thinking he was actually going to do something special for Michigan, and he won't.
But which is worse, that he put on a pretty slick sales talk and hoodwinked Michigan, or that so many people were so willing to buy it.

You are all assuming that Romney won in Michigan because of his absurd speech rather than because people thought that he was the best candidate. Perhaps people voted for him despite his absurd speech.

I voted for Romney during the MI primary because I wanted an conservative outsider. Does he have a chance to win the general election? Time will tell.
McCain has been in Washington since the early 80's. He had his chance to do something during all this time. When I hear the name McCain, I associated him with the Keating 5 S&L scandal of the 1980's.

As I said before, if he truly had the feelings about Michigan that he portrayed prior to the primary, he would have come back to the state long ago. If you want to make a difference in Michigan, the first thing you do is come back here and start contributing to the state by living and working here, like I have. It burns my britches to see a guy like Romney using my state to advance his agenda, which in the long run would have very little to do with Michigan.

This is what I have been thinking all along also, if Mitt "loves" Michigan so much than why did he not run for Gov. of Michiagn, or come back to Michigan and contribute to his "so-called" economy. You can't say that you have a passion for a state, and love it so much when he has not even lived in Michigan for YEARS! It was all just a big front, as all politicans give.
