Same here. You can forget about planting Hostas, Hollyhocks, and any number of other perennials. We've tried everything and nothing keeps them off.
Recently, our neighbor has reported seeing wolves twice within a half mile of our house. I'm moving soon and would dearly love to see a wolf before I go.

Yes, I'm even staying in the U.P., but we're moving four hours east of here to the Escanaba area.
Does anyone have any idea what kind of wildlife I can expect to see in that area (besides deer, of course)?

We've seen a cougar not far from our cabin, it's a beautiful animal! Coyotes whoop it up in the thick woods in the back. Owls hoot once in a while. What I believe to be a peregrin falcon has a nest in a tree on the lake side of the house (it's not an eagle, but we have a regular one that flies over!) Brown snakes, I found my first blue spotted salamander last summer! LOTS of spiders, geez........ shrews, field mice, red-bellied woodpeckers, hairy woodpeckers, tufted titmouses, tons of chickadees, orioles, hummingbirds, and I just saw a white weasel (aka ermine) snooping around the compost pile the other day.

It's a jungle out there!

I am a photographer here in Lansing Mi and I have the honor to photograph lots of deer rabbit turkey and red tail hawk. But I would really like to photograph a bald eagle! I have seen a small pack of wolves here in lansing just on the outskirts of town. We werent sure thats what we were seeing but confirmed it later. I will try to get pics this winter.

Wolves outside of Lansing? That seems unlikely. More like coyotes.
Anytime wolves show up people want to start to shoot them. Wolves in Lansing, there would be a hue and cry.

One thing you need to watch for is deer crossing the roads at night.
Like I said, I don't live in Mi. anymore but the last time I visited I was diving up from Ohio on I-131 on my way to my hometown(Cadillac).
The further north I got the more deer there were lying along the highway.
I went to see a school buddy in South Boardman.
His wife had a Monte Carlo and the front end was pushed halfway back to the windshield after hitting a deer.

BTW. Michiganders:
Does your auto insurance cover this or do you have to pay extra premiums or provisions for "wildlife/natural" damages or what ever it's called.?

I work at the Air Force base in Dayon Oh and a guy I work with hit a deer with his brand spanking new SUV right outside the gate.
There are probably almost as many deer here as Michigan.

Come up here to East Jordan, there are nesting pairs frequently visible at the viewing area on the mouth of the Jordan River. I've seen them.

I flew in from SoCal to Columbus airport and rented a car from there. I have a brother who lives and owns a Heating/Air Conditioning business in Ashland, OH.
I lived close to Norton Air Force Base in SoCal. Which has been closed down since the 80"s'
