Wildlife in Michigan??
So I was wondering what kind of wildlife resides in the state? I know there are deer, but do you have any bears or cougars??

couger
there has been an arguement about couger in MI for years. in the last couple of years the DNR has found evidence of hair that is couger. I bet you will never see one but they are there. Maybe when all the people are gone the wild life will take the state back. I wonder if the old GM factorys will house wild birds?

Without People is a two hour show, I think on the History channel. It deals with this. I have watched it twice, would watch again.

Way up north. There have been some black bear sightings as far South as Montcalm County I believe, which is basically the line where most of Michiganians live South of. But they are rare. Cougars maybe way up in the UP?
Lots of critters like beavers, badgers, raccoons, gophers, rabbits, etc.. and a lot of hawks and falcons in our area. Sandhill cranes are a common sight in the wetland areas.

Wildlife in Mich
There are some Moose and Wolves in the Upper. Some Elk in the Atlanta area. Seen Bald Eagles on Lake Michigamme and Lake Ruth in the Upper. There are Coyote widespread in the southern counties, I don't know if they are all the way up thru the state. I hear them plenty at night at my home in Jackson county but have only seen one once in the day in Washtenaw Co. There are Fox,Mink,Wild Turkey, many different Ducks and Geese. A lot more I'm missing too. Haven't heard about any Black Panther sightings on the news in a couple years it seems.

I've been close to bear both while out hiking and on my property in the UP. I've also seen cougar and eagles. Once I've seen tracks that were moose on a hike but never had a real encounter. Then, of course, there's all the normal stuff like deer, etc., etc.

We see eagles around mid-Michigan often.
