I took a weekend trip to Marquette last August and had a very nice time. It's only 4 hours from my place in Petoskey, so it's a nice regional getaway for me. The drive into town on 28 from Munising is very pretty, and I love that view of downtown on Lake Superior from about 10 miles out. I stayed at the Landmark Hotel, and enjoyed relaxing at Lower Harbor and Mattson Park, which are beautiful spots. I was suprised at how deserted the streets were on a gorgeous summer weekend, but I wasn't complaining.......will definitely be making another trip to Marquette this year.

Depends.... are you retired? Working from home? Working in Marquette?
Within easy driving distance from Marquette, I would look up Negaunee, Ishpeming, Deerton, Gwinn, possibly even Trenary and Traunick.
We are even considering as far out as Republic, Michigamme, and Chatham. But we are a little crazy too!

Ah Trenary, the home of the outhouse classic. My sister runs the Silver Dollar one of the two bars in Trenary. She is a major organizer and promoter of this event.

Not as sophisticated as some of the entertainment in Mqt but ya have to make do in dah woods

eh!

desert2ocean is on a distinguished road
We are in our mid 30's and early 40's. He is coming up next Monday for an interview with a company called CED. I do not know if it is in Marquette or a surrounding town. We are a little crazy as well. I will look at those areas and see what is available. I will be both working from home and commuting. I am in education ( a program coordinator, no teaching) and have healthcare management experience as well. I am looking at the colleges and local hospital. I do hope I can "post" to you again as I know more about our move.

Feel free to fire away with any questions
Seeing as how it appears you are both in the more "white collar" professions, I would strongly urge that at least one of you have a good job lined up before you come up here. Those are few and far between with much competition for them. As for colleges..... it's only NMU in this area unless perhaps you lived south of town a ways (Trenary would be halfway) then you would have the option of looking for employement with Bay De Noc community college down in Escanaba, with each of you commuting to your respective cities.

Thank you for some of the imput. We really don't consider ourselves "white collar" though. There just jobs, we are really looking foward to the smaller town life style you have there. I lived in a small town in my younger years in Wisconsin, but I have been in a large city south Georgia since. I'll trade the hot humid summers for a snowy winter any day. Can you help me find a mens adult hockey league to play in? My wife suggested this forum. I've played inline for almost 15 years and cannot wait to get on the ice again. Preferable a 30 and over league, I can't find anything on the internet except the jrs and college games. please help me, i'm in need for a good, fun game.
