None of that. I enjoy the lower cost of living in addition to lower taxes and a larger paycheck than where I was before. I like the four seasons and not sweating for 9 months like in the South (I know, I lived there already), then 3 months of dead brown trees and grass before it starts all over again. I enjoy being minutes from clear clean fresh water lakes that are tens of thousands of square miles in size. Fishing some of the best fisheries anyplace in the world, let alone U.S. Golf courses that rival the best in the country during the summer and some of the best snow/winter activities all winter. I enjoy the quality of life I have, and the quality of education that is available to my kids, which is way better than where I had been for years. I like having the natural beauty and resources surround me that Michigan has to offer.
I like the easy life as well, that is why I can afford to take the Summer off if I chose and spend it at the beach or fishing with my kids while they are young and develop hopefully lasting memories with them. There is no pain in being able to spend time with your family because you don't have to work 80+ hours a week to make house payments or keep up with the neighbors. If there is, then you should re-evaluate your life and make changes. Life is much better here for my family. It is Heaven on Earth for us. Notice I didn't say it was for you or anybody else. If this isn't the best place for you, then move someplace else. It is a free country and we have the ability to move about as we please, and live where we choose. Make a choice and move to where you think is best, Michigan is for us, maybe not you. Pretty simple really.

Bydand, Hear, hear!! That is our reasoning and philosophy too. We debated "skipping town", but after looking at we have here, we won't unless we are forced to.

Bydand, perfect!
I just joined this forum and without running into Jeeg, Coldjensen, and Bydand, I would have left and never come back. I am one of those who feels like I have to speak up for Michigan. I am getting tired of the negativity, though. Ick.

Easy, go back to California and spend 3/4 of a mill for the same house you bought for under 300k here.

More like $1.5M, but at least it would have appreciated even in the down market, unlike here, where I lost my shirt.
Like others have noted here, Michigan may have its positives, but the negatives far outweigh them. With Jenny at the helm and Carl and Debster representing us in D.C., it will only get worse. Yes, California has numbnut politicians too, but, they don't have corrupt unions pulling the state's strings.

Then move back, not happy here, move someplace where it will make that happen. Houses are dropping value in California as well as Michigan, and every other state right now, so I find that remark a bit hard to believe. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lala...jim-crame.html

I live in Ironwood Michigan ,, yes a yooper,, and its like living in the wild wild west with a walmart and other conveniences lol,, I am also from Canada and if you are you know the scenery ect betwn Alberta and BC,, it is very similar here. For a small area , you don't want to know what can go on,, but then it can happen anywhere in the USA or Canada,, so make the move but keep in mind,, every place has its own charachter,, and this one is unique , lots of Finish people here to lol,, its all good if you can adjust easily to environments.
