We made the same move almost ten years ago now. We looked at pretty much every town within an hour to 1.5 hours of the airport and chose Grosse Ile. I would still make that same choice if I needed to be near Detroit or DTW. With no limits at all, the West coast of the State is the place to be. Traverse City, Grand Haven New Haven South Haven, Anywhere around Grand rapids. . . . .

I know the Metro Detroit area best. If you want to look in this area, it depends on what kind of place you are looking for. If you want Irvine with snow - Rochester Hills. Lyon Township is kind of going that way too, but it is still a little bit rural.

Northville, Plymouth, Saline, Chelsea!!, Bloomfiled Township, Ann Arbor, Rochester, Troy, Farmington(Hills), Walled lake, Union Lake, White Lake, Green Oak Township (Silver lake), Woodhaven, Grosse Pointes (5 cities), South Lyon, - all offer different syles of living in a very pleasant community with great schools. There are many more those just come to mind quickly.

Milford - neat little town with great access to Kensington Metropark (coolest park around) has decent but not great schools. It has driving access issues especially at 8-9 and 5-6 rush hour.

If I could live anywhere, my choice would depend on the day. Ann Arbor, Grosse Ile, and Grand Haven and Chelsea would all be in the top. Oh and maybe Marshall too. Possibly Rochester. Yeah, I guess it would be hard to chose, too many excellence options.

Oh yes. Dexter too. Dexter is awesome.

Yes, Dundee is cute, safe, and friendly and I love the view of the old mill and the small dam on the River Raisin. It's not as upscale as Saline or quite as cute as Chelsea, but we love it here. It's one of those places where you walk into the local Kroger store and the cashier asks you how your new job is going or if you're going to the Mayfly Festival. I consider it a modern day Mayberry in a lot of ways.
