Relocating to Michigan
Hello
We are moving to Michigan this July. My husband has just finished graduate school and we are moving with 2 small children. We are looking in to the Farmington/Farmington Hills area. I have questions about good areas to live(we will be renting at first). We are more interested in houses or duplexes. I also have questions about the best school districts and private schools in the area. I will be putting my son in preschool. Any ideas on good preschools? He is currently in a part day parent-coop program that is fantastic. Are there any like this? I'm not interested in a day care setting, I want a preschool environment. I have many other concerns and fears. Any information would be helpful
Thanks

I can say that the Farmington (Hills) area is a great area. The public schools are highly rated, but not the absoulute best. About the Daycare, I am sorry but I do not have to much info for you on that.

Novi is probably the closest place with top rated schools. Farinton and Novi are similar. Novi has more malls and strip malls than ou will see anywhere.

Novi, Northville, livonia schools are great schools. Check out Greatschools.com for school rating information. Also there is a website for Michigan school ratings. Just Google it.
I lived in Livonia which is right next door to Farmington Hills. I loved growing up there. Great family values. Hard working and friendly people. The town of Farmington is nice with many festivals during the summer. Nice place to live.

I am sure there are many preschools like the one you mentioned in the Farm. Hills area. It is after all an upscale soccer mom setting.

Good Luck
Farmington Hills is senior city.
Try Novi ,Northville or Canton.
These communities offer tons of stuff for kids of all ages.
Remain fluid, renting is a great decision, especially if things go bad for you guys.
A lot of people are out of work, competition is fierce for jobs in Michigan, do not let yourself become imprisoned in a home you will not be able to sell.
Welcome.

Some guy from another thread is desperate to sell a house in Farmington Hills. You might contact him.

welcome to SE MI
Hi,
I too moved to SE MI after college and landed in a Farmington apt for a couple years. It has a nice walkable quaint downtown area and a variety of nice family housing, and it is a good time to find a rental house probably. The West side is nicer. If you want more modern houses up to McMansions in suburban sprawl and drive to everywhere then Farmington Hills & Novi is more appropriate.
I suggest also look at the nearby towns Plymouth and Northville. These are very family focused older communities with nice walkable downtowns, and a wide variety of housing, nice parks, festivals, etc. We love Plymouth.
As for co-op preschool, we really like ours and have had kids in it for over 3 years and met alot of nice people & relocated people from other areas too.
It is called PCN - Plymouth Children's Nursery, and the school number is 734 455 6250 and the website is having some issues now but it is normally Plymouth Childrens Nursery
It is has been located in a rented building in Canton just S of Plymouth for over 20 years, and in operation since 1962. You can reply to this email or contact the number above and there is an open house on this Sat 15 March in the morning from 10-12.

If you are looking to move into an apartment. Edward Rose apartments are great. I am relocating to Florida and have lived in Michigan my who life. They pay for heat and water. The only thing you pay for his electric also they have washer and dryers in the unit. The best places to live if you are buying a home depending upon your price range. Canton, Novi and Northville are great places to purchase homes except property taxes are quite high. Walled lake schools (close to novi and northville) are amoung the top 5 schools in the state. Try not to live in Southfield unless you are renting due to their exorbant property taxes. But, farmington Hills is also a nice city to live, but there isn't much to do there as stated above. Enjoy Michigan.. .

Hi There:
I too am moving to Farmington Hills with two small childern. If you are looking for a preschool, you should check out the Alameda Early Childhood Center. I was really blown away by it- I thought it was an actual elementary school at first. It has a gym and a library and the staff there was very friendly. I am very excited to send my son there!
