mostie, I'm about 20 miles south west of Battle Creek, in Kalamazoo. I have friends that work for Kellogg (the cereal people) and they all live here in Kalamazoo or Portage. From what they tell me Battle Creek is kind of in a decline, the mall keeps getting smaller, and more people moving to live outside the city. They've never complained about crime. From what I know, Denso, Kellogg, and Target Distribution Center are major employers in the area. Overall there is a decent number of businesses in the area.
Hope it helps! T. |

I have lived both Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. Battle Creek isn't that bad of a place, is similar in many ways to Kalamazoo. It is only what, 30 minutes away, it isn't a super revolution going from one to another. Not a lot of fine dining choices though, and is predominantly blue collar. Not sure what the guy meant about the mall getting smaller. They have a few new stores in there, but the reality is malls all over the united states are going away. It was sort of an 80's fad. Message me directly if you would like any information on entertainment( limited), housing, schools, etc.. Just don't fall into the midwestern trap of "the only places to be in this side of the state are Kalamazoo, portage or Grand Rapids". That isn't the case.
