Several of the larger cities (Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, Detroit, Traverse City, Bay City/Saginaw, Kalamazoo, Greater Lansing) all have excellent websites with event pages on them. Pure Michigan has loads of festivals and events (fairs, expositions, car shows, celebrations etc) on their website. Check out the Visitor Information for each of the mentioned cities.

Detroit has some huge conventions with international appeal. Movement (electronic music), Jazz, Youmacon, auto show, a country music thingy, Freedom fesitval fireworks (about 1 million people), Motown music, a dwarf convention, those are just things that stand out in my mind, There are conventions after conventions. There was a huge church youth convention I think it was Lutheran or Presbyterian (30,000 kids) not sure if it will be repeated.
