I guess that depends on where you will be working....it is a big state. I don't live there yet, but you have definitely come to the right place for answers...this forum rocks!

I grew up in Flint and thats about the last place you want to go. But....if you're interested in living in one of Michigan's larger cities i'd check out Grand Rapids. I currently live in GR and like it pretty well (though I'm moving soon). Grand Rapids is quite safe for a larger city and has a lot going on. Not sure what you wanta know....feel free to direct more specific questions to me if you're interested

Let us know where in Michigan you are going, what you age, and interests are, what kind of place your are looking for (urban/fun; quiet, rural, wildlife, water, views, suburban, etc) and someone will be able to give you more information than you probably want.

Depending on your industry, jobs are hard to find right now, so be aware of that. Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids are doing well. But the Detroit area is where the action is. Good luck.

Safe place to live would be......crime is everywhere. From big cities such as Detroit to smaller cities such as Flint and Grand Rapids, to Small towns with a population of only 2000 people. I lived in a town called Whitehall with a population of 3000 people. Crime still happened there, though not as often as bigger cities. Murder still occured in Whitehall, the average murder happened once every 10 years, but it still happens. Whitehall had a dozen robberies last year, had a dozen of burglaries, a few auto thefts and a few assualts and a half a dozen rapes. But over all, Whitehall was a great town to live in, nice schools, right on lake Michigan and it is a tourist town during the summer. Plus winter recreation with snowmobiling and Ice fishing, summer offers hiking, camping, canoeing, bike trails water sports. Detroit, being a high crime city, is still a nice place if you look beyond the crime. Home is where you make it people!

St. Clair, just south of Port Huron if you're looking for small, safe town on the river.

I'm from grand rapids.. i'm 20 years old and bored with my life here and moving away to either boulder, CO or Miami, FL .. still deciding. Grand Rapids is a nice city if you live in the suburban area and really not much crime unless you go in the worse parts of town. There are ghetto areas that will make the crime rate seem higher than it is. Look into Rockford or Walker.
