Default Looking for work in north michigan

I am trying to move to northern MI from flint. I do Tile, and hardwood flooring. What is the prospect of finding work in north michigan, Traverse city, petoskey, gaylord area.

I called a couple of places and one said they were doing well but did not need any help, they kept one crew going. One crew is not much to keep going.

Any help in relocating app. thanks

Hello Paulding,
I've been self-employed for 20 years building from the ground up along with remodeling, additions, roofing, garages and drywall... My tile guy said he is keeping busy (2 man crew)
But I personally have had only two calls since September 07 and I personally don't know any builders that are excited about the economy up here....And to make things worse, people are bidding work low just to get it, so now we are working for less
I heard just yesterday that some are hanging and finishing drywall for about .80/s.f it used to be $1.10 or more...
In my situation, I'm relocating out of Michigan as soon as I can...
Beautiful place to live, but hard to make a living in construction - medical field would have been a better choice.
I'm in the Grand Traverse area
Good luck

Paulding,
Northern Michigan is a great place to live but a difficult place to find work. My mother is an RN and she left her job of 12 years in Iosco County to work out of Ann Arbor. The reason; she is now making double her former salary. Having grown up in Roscommon County and living there until I was 18 I wouldn't llive there unless I was retired.
