Default Road repairs to be paid by tax payers

I live in a small village in michigan. Recently we were informed that we are responsible for paying for the repaving of our street. As a homeowner, I am already paying county and village taxes.

The village allowed a trailer park to be put within the village limits. They did not bond the companies that were bringing in the trailers to the park. The roads in the village are not equipped to substain the weights of the tractor trailers along with the house.

Our street is also considered a main enterance and exit into the village. If this is the case, then why are the tax payers being burdened with this expense? Since it is considered a main road, why is the village not responsible?

Any information that anyone may have would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely if your street is not part of the trailer park association, I'd seek the advice of an attorney, pronto.

I'm probably going to be in the same situation eventually. The township and county refuse to spend any money on our main road, but approved subdivision after subdivision over the last 20 years with no impact fees on a road that was already deplorable. Only the fact that the road criss-crosses 2 townships, they're preoccupied with blocking a Meijer store that voters already approved twice, and that they're plagued with internal scandals have spared us from assessment.
When it does happen, I will most certainly be very involved. I'm willing to spend some of my own money to actively pursue referendum or legal action to take back the road into a private association. Then at least we can be assured our money will go to a quality job without costly county oversight and that future development will pay it's fair share. Then I will go after reductions in county and township property taxes to reflect lack of support for our little one mile of road that serves 1000+ homes and probably generates over half a million a year in county and township taxes. We should be entitled to seek matching State funds for roads as well. When government fails us we shouldn't just roll over and take it. We should fire them. Maybe it's a pipe dream but I have a relative who's a very good real estate lawyer.

Taxpayers ALWAYS pay for road repairs. If they're shifting the burden from state to local taxes, that's a fairly minor change, but if they're shifting it from local to private, that's BS.
