My husband will be graduating med school and there is a good residency in Harrison Township, MI. We will be visiting the town and surrounding areas looking at the housing market and local economy. Is it a nice place to live or should be look further away from the town? We have a toddler too, are there parks, other young families in the area? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I just moved from harrison township to chesterfield (about 8 miles north), all I can say is I miss that wonderful little boating town, I lived there for 3 years and really felt safe, eveybody was friendly, with a small town feel. I plan to move back soon. Harrison Township is mainly full of friendly boater's. Metro Beach is a great park to bring kid's. It's seemed to me like harrison twp. is a sanctuary from the rest of metro area RAT RACE. Good Luck

i was happy to see your positive response to Harrison Township, thank you. When buying a home, what are the pros/cons of living on Lake St. Clair? Would we need to buy a boat to make it worth our time? Can you swim in it? What else is there to do on the lake? What are the better neighborhoods to be looking at to buy a home? Our budget will only be about $150,000. Thanks!

The lake is great, I'm not sure you would waant to swim in there. If you did get a boat there are plenty of other place's on lake st clair to swim though. I lived in a condo on the lake and there was a pool there. There are nice homes for 150k.. but I'm not sure you will find them on the lake, maybe on a canal. There's plenty of marina's close by to keep a boat if you are not on the water. I have noticed that there are a real mix of incomes there, the very rich have homes on the lake. The upper and middle class on the canal's. And then maybe lower incomes in apartment's, Just examples. It's a real mix of income levels, but still a community atmosphere. With a toddler I'd look at places closer to metro beach. I was about a mile from metro my 8 year old and I would go there alot.

Harrison Twp is a great area to live, the Lake makes it so worth it to live there in the summer. I love going to Metro Beach Metro Park. It really has everything that someone living in a nice city or "township" in this case, would want. You don't need a boat, but I do know that many people who live there have a boat. I know that many people all over the metro area keep there boat here, that is why there is so many marinas in Harrison. Overall a great pick on the eastside!
