Default price of sprinkler and sod

Washentaw county:

The builder is quoting $3700 for sprinklers and sod... I thought like the appliances that the builder was high so I decided to not go with them... but looking here, maybe I made a mistake?

Did you have builder install sprinklers and sod? If not how much did it cost.

If I decided against builder... how hard is it to install own sod? I would of course pay professional for sprinklers.

Can't use seed here... it is against HOA rules.

lot size is 75 x 120, house = 2384 sq foot with 2 car attached garage with 4 ft extension (depth). i am sure we have city water.

thanks!

has anyone built a new house before?

Did you have builder install sprinklers and sod... or did you contract after closing???

I am not a builder but it seems like the quote is pretty reasonable. I put in an irrigation pump, drove a well myself strictly for irrigation and had about 600 into the pump, piping, point. A neighbor recently had a sprinkler system put that included the pump and sprinklers and it cost around 1500. The quote seems pretty fair considering the labor intensity of prepping the ground for sod and laying it as well. When I laid sod several years ago, it was sugar sand and we had to put down some topsoil that would retain water, particularly if your yard sits on the open sun.
It wouldnt hurt to get a few landscape quotes to compare, and there may be some on this forum that can give you a better approximation.

Does that include good topsoil? I wouldn't put sod down on what the builder provides for fill (generally speaking). Otherwise the price seems pretty reasonable. Sometimes it's worth it to have the builder just get it done before closing, so you don't have to deal with the landscapers after closing. I waited 60 days just to have trees planted one summer, just because all the landscapers were so busy in May/June. But if the landscaper knows they have to have it done before the house closes, they give those jobs priority.

I don't think that's such a bad price. Also, remember it will be in your mortgage rather than additional cash out of pocket.

Default thanks!

I was able to add sod and sprinklers as an option by the builder.
It figured it was an extra $20 on mortgage if I can get 6 1/4%.

that is a huge worry about how I was going to get sod and sprinklers in when those first 3 months, I will be trying to furnish the place.
