Marquette is the best one. You forgot Sault Ste. Marie (Lake Superior State)

I lived in the Soo for a while and I wouldn't consider it a "college town" I would consider it a town with a college. The town doesn't revolve around the campus like most true college towns do. I like Lake State don't get me wrong. After I graduated from high school in the Soo I went there and have always really likes the college.

I live in Lansing and definitely know that East Lansing is a college town. It is full of college kids, partiers, diversity and lots of artsy cultural events. I woudn't put it in the same category as U of M, with culture and diversity, but it brings many types of people together. Most importantly, it has been known for being sport driven and partying. Unfortunately, my daughter is bent on being a Michigan fan (she doesn't know any better, she is only 10-haha), but I am hoping to convince her that MSU will offer her a great education (and me the sanity of knowing she is near !

I would not consider Kochville to be a college town. Sure, SVSU is there, but there's nothign else. Saginaw is down the road, but that's definitely not a college town, and in Kochville itself there are only a few small dorms, a Seven Eleven, a strip club, and a small deli basically.

Kzoo is a college town but I've noticed recently that there is much more "town" than "college town". There is a number of bars/restaurants that the college kids dont frequent and is out of their price range. My friend has lived there for 5 years now and I used to not think much of this town but now I really think its an interesting place outside of WMU and Kzoo College.

Plus...lets be honest, isn't the name Kalamazoo one of the greatest names for a city?? Everybody has heard of Kzoo simply because of its funny sounding name (All said in respect, of course)

A thing to remember about Kzoo is that it previously had a national if not international reputation in a manner similar to Battle Creek. Instead of Kellogg's though, it was the home of Gibson instruments - besides electric guitars, they made the premier mandolins of the 20s and the best acoustic guitars outside of Nazareth, PA. There was even a "Kalamazoo" brand used by Gibson.

I would say Ypsilanti is close, but Mt. Pleasant and East Lansing defiantly is. Without the college they would still have commerce, but not the degree that they have during school.

EL, Mt pleasant, Big Rapids and Allendale are all examples of "College Towns" because there would be nothing without the colleges.

AA, Kzoo, Ypsi, Marquette and a lot of those small towns with colleges are still considered college towns to me but they would function without them.

Kzoo does have a lot of college bars and in my opinion a better scene than EL or AA although it does not have the big conference sports teams that also define college towns
