Hi, I'm trying to determine if there are "typical" cycles of dates that popular lake houses in northern MI rent for, i.e. are they strict Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Sunday rental turnover by week, or do they vary. Some quick searching on the popular rental sites hasn't given me a clear answer, and since we need to verify that we can book flights first that work with other family members schedules, I was hoping to be able to book our flights based around the typical rental period.

It sounds like the popular rentals get booked way in advance, so I assume there is a local "standard" to turn the property over to new renters every 7 days? I assumed Saturday to Saturday but not sure.

Thanks!

If you're looking at the popular areas such as Traverse City, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, etc. 7 days is the standard, and probably Saturday to Saturday. I would highly recommend booking the house and THEN the flight. Most vacation rentals have fairly flexible cancellation dates as long as you are 30 days out (always verify, of course). Airlines, not so much.

And, yes, I would expect the best places to be booked up by the end of the month. We booked at the end of December last year and they were already filling up.

Good luck and enjoy!
