Jefftrain, if you go to google maps and do a streetview, you can see the storefronts on Ford Rd. You might be able to recognize the building where the bakery was if it hasn't been razed.

If it was on the north side there's a good chance it wasn't. On the southside, the buidlings immediately on the corner are now occupied by a gas station and Rite Aid which took up about 5 storefronts. I'm not sure when these buildings were put up but it wasn't too recent. In the 80's I'd guess.

Here is a link that lists some flea markets, I think all of them would be within 40 minutes of the Detroit areas you are interested in. My BFs mom goes to some smaller ones so I'll still ask her about those.

Just found a really neat, detailed webpage filled with Garden City history. There's some links at the bottom too. http://www.geocities.com/michhist/gardencity.html

I couldn't tell you exactly where on Ford Rd. west of Middlebelt it was...but if you don't see it cardwell(or even heard of it) my bet is that its not there.
Cato- I'm kind of bizarre in that I'm a map and geography freak. Always have been. I can't stay off of google maps. That streetview feature has made me late for work...LOL!! |

The cost of living is so high because you looking at the richest part of the state.
Try looking in some other areas and you will find it isn't so bad. We pay a little over 700 a month for a 3 bdrm/1.5 bath with excellent landlords. They do all the shoveling, plowing, grass cutting, tree trimming and bush trimming, and everything. Our garage door broke and within 3 hours of calling, it was fixed. We live in Saginaw. Try some other areas. |

Honestly I've been looking around online at different apartment reviews in Garden City and Westland, but most of the complexes I might be interested in are small, 4-8 unit buildings in subdivisions. How does anyone ever find out if the tenants are good to live around?

Ok so I decided on Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti just because its closer to Chicago (I know only by like 45 minutes lol) I am considering renting from McKinley (McKinley — McKinley) Traver Ridge in Ann Arbor and Schooners Cove in Ypsi. Does anyone have any opinions on this company/area/these apartments? Im coming to MI in May for work but I will be in Sterling heights, I dont know how much time I will have to get over to the A2 area so I appreciate any insight you all have
