anyone else sick of the winter and cold
Is anyone leaving Michigan because of the bad weather the state is known for? There is a shift of population out of states like MI and many moving to florida and other states were the weather is actualy nice in March.

Yeah but in the summer, people get drenched in Fl with sweat, the humitity and heat is unbearable. I know a couple people that are retiring in FL and moving back to MI. There is no perfect place, weather wise. In MI we get to experience every type of weather. When MI economy is doing well the population increases.

LMBO... while MI's winters might be cold, the other parts of the country are already running their A/C and bracing for hurricane season and/or nasty high temps that keep them indoors anyways. MI is home to some of the best summers in the states, enjoy them while others are enduring month after month of 100 degrees and up or non-stop sauna-like humidity.

Honestly the weather has absolutely nothing to do with why I want to move (that's 100% due to the economy) but I'd be lying if I didn't see the shorter winter as a bonus right now. It's true that most of the places that are growing are warmer climates but I don't think the population is shifting because of weather - if that were the case, California's population would be increasing rather than declining, because S Cal has nearly perfect weather. Summers in places like TX and FL absolutely suck and cancel out the mild winter for a lot of people, which is why there's the "snowbird" phenomenon of retired people living in FL in the winter but coming back to MI in the summer. There are also other factors to contend with like tornadoes, earthquakes or hurricanes depending on which part of the country you go to. So I don't think leaving because of the weather is necessarily a good reason because it's often trading one set of weather problems for another, but after a super hard winter here I certainly understand the desire to escape

This has been my first winter in Michigan since I was 12. I was good with it until about a month ago when cabin fever started wrapping its wretched hands around my neck. I love the snow during the holidays, so that was neat, but this (Feb. thru April) is a tough time of year to live up here. I didn't give much heed to the warnings about it initially, but man, it is a LONG road to spring in these parts after the New Year. Compounding the situation is the fact that my parents live in Georgia and I have to listen to them talk about the fabulous dogwood and azaela blossoms, while my high temps don't even approach their lows.
I'm hanging in there, though, and looking forward to another spectacular Michigan summer!

I'm moving to Miami for school.. so I get the best of both worlds, I get to come home for Michigan summers and leave for michigan winters I even get to come home on Christmas for a white christmas! lol All in all, Michigan is a pretty nice place though. The winters may suck but trust me after seeing 15+ states, Michigan is definitely in the top 2 or 3 out of the ones i've been through

I USED to like your posts. LOL
That would be the ideal situation really.
For all out there who are ready for the GD snow to be GONE, just think, it could be worse, we could all live in Wolf Creek Pass, Colorado. Wolf Creek Ski Area Look at the top right corner for their snowfall report. OH yes, it could be much worse.

I think more people are leaving MI due to the crappy economy than the weather.
