Default Relocating: Ann Arbor, Westland, or Bloomfield Hills

I am looking at relocating my family to Michigan and am looking for some advice on good places to live. I have a family and am looking for a nice place to raise them (good, safe neighborhoods and schools). My work will take me through Ann Arbor through Westland to Bloomfield so I am looking anywhere around those places. I know some home prices are alot (I am looking keep my home under $350k. Thanks

Ann Arbor would be my first choice. There are lots of nice areas around as long as you can get Ann Arbor schools which I hear are pretty good.

I am not too impressed with Westland Schools. My son is in that district and although definitely not a bad school district I don't plan on sending my youngest there unless I cannot move towards AA.

I like parts of westland as well but I believe they have some of the highest taxes in the state (3rd I thought) but I have been told they put them to good use. Plenty of shopping but too many people (IMHO). Home prices are anywhere from low 100's to 250ish that I have seen while driving around. There are some newer developments with more pricier homes but things are tight there as it is. There are some areas I don't like either (sw westland)believe it or not I have seen homeless walking the street.

Your best bet would be to stay in northern westland and try for Livonia schools (Been told that they used to be good)

Can't comment on bloomfield.

I would go with Bloomfield Hills, but for $350K it is going to be hard to find something there, maybe impossible. Bloomfield Hills does have award winning schools, some of the best in the entire country. You can try Bloomfield Twp. or West Bloomfield Twp. they are not as expensive as BH, and still have great schools, neighborhoods. You may also want to look into the communities around the Bloomfield's, such as Keego Harbor, Sylvan Lake, Orchard Lake Village, and Waterford Twp.

You could probably get a top of the line house in Westland for $350k. It is more working class. I love it but if you have enough cash for a $350k house, it would probably be below you. :P
