My grandpa was born there and my great grandpa lived there until he died a few years ago. I haven't been there since I was a kid, but it is a pretty small town. It is cold and snowy in the winter and pretty cool in the summer. There is a large ski jump there. That's about all I remember!!

Thanks! Liked the part about people living in one place all their lives! Must be some great ties to the area?

Being on the border between the UP and Wisconsin, Iron Mountain has a bit of a Wisconsin flavor to it. The town is pretty open minded about new things, new people, etc. They have had a bit of a setback with the proposed closing (it's been put off a bit) of the paper mill across the river. It is a reasonable drive to Green Bay or Escanaba.

There are a lot of nice park areas around the river which is the state border. The ski hill mentioned is part of a resort complex with a good restaurant. The Wisconsin economy in general (but note the plant proposed closing above) is faring better than Michigan, so the area is a bit more upbeat. The cost of living compared to most places is very reasonable.
