My husband and I are both from Michigan, and have lived in many areas (metro Detroit, downriver, Fenton, to name a few). He bought a cabin in Harrison a few years back, and we've made it our home the past year and a half. We're both in our 50's, and have always wanted to have a place on the water. We're open to many places, both northern Michigan and downstate. We currently live in the middle of nowhere (we don't even have garbage service!), and definitely don't want to live in such a remote area. A quiet area is fine, but not as remote as this place. And we're both hoping to work but both don't have jobs at the moment, so we need something reasonable (around $120,000). We bought a boat last summer, so it would be great to have it in the water all summer long!

What areas would you consider moving to? We probably wouldn't want to go farther north than Tawas, definitely not way up in the UP. Anywhere else is fair game. Thanks in advance.

Well, Tawas was going to be one of my recommendations. You can check the Port Austin to Marysville coast line too.

Prices tend to be less on the East Coast of Michigan.

And look around Oscoda, a hop, skip and a jump north of the Tawases. Many reasonable houses, cabins and cottages, two good-sized lakes (Van Etten and Cedar), the Ausable, and some really nice sugar-sand beaches along Lake Huron. The lakefront tends to be rockier at Tawas and East Tawas.

There are a couple of smaller lakes in the Jackson area (Peace?) and Round Lake in Bath (Lansing area). Also in Durand. Just get a big map of Michigan and zero in on the smaller lakes in the middle of the state.

Not to criticize, but I would think finding work first before looking for lakefront property would be a
better option.
