We're in the same boat, fro MI, moved away, now FINALLY moving back :-)

Our options are limited as far as location, I don't know HOW wide open you are as far as location. I would live in Traverse City or Marquette in a heartbeat if we could choose anywhere.

If you're looking lwr MI, some areas we've found to be pretty nice in our search, have what you're looking for, easily can find nice house w/acreage, decent schools, for under 240k...Marshall, Battle Creek area, GR area, Rockford, Jackson area, St. John's, DeWitt, Hastings, Flint suburbs (Davison, Flushing, etc.), Midland. Lansing and Flint seem to have the best deals in areas w/top schools, Midland by far has been the overall best place we've found, top ranked schools in the state, VERY affordable housing w/acreage, very low crime, tons of family oriented activities.

Default life long michigander

If I were you I would look at the west side.Lots of nice lake Michigan coast line communities. We have a boat slip in Ludington & love it there.Good schools ,clean beaches and shopping (Lowes , Walmart & the like). The west side is doing better economically also, more job prospects.Anywhere say fram just north of Saginaw to the Ohio border (south east Mich) is no place to move to.People are leaving here by the dozens. No work lousy schools bad crime dirty streams & rivers.I have lived near Flint my whole life & beleive me a few more years to retire & were out of here.No kidding its a real pit.Rude people , fast paced , no place to raise a family.(crime , drugs )Its like a diffrent world on the west side tho.Very nice thats where were going after retirement.

Default Where to live?

We may be moving to Michigan sometime in the next 6-12 months, we have thought about holland, but would like to here about some other places. Here's what we need; safe area, low crime
homes under 180,000
good schools
family friendly areas
Anything we could find out about Holland and other areas would be great!

Default It has a bunch of danish transplants

Holland is a beautiful town, but the dutch people are very reclusive.
I have visited and worked in Holland, I felt the people were kind of strange,
like they were in a cult or something.
