I prefer to swim in my own pool or in a lake. At least in a lake you have millions of gallons of water to dilute whatever comes off of or out of other swimmers. We learend the hard way that if you are going to a crowded public pool or especially a water park, everyone should take antibiotics first.

That sounds great! I will have to check that out. Thanks
I will also try some of the "crystal clear" lakes too.

Take a trip to the sunset side of the state and try Lake Michigan. Clear water, firm sand beaches, and if you know where to go - no people. I can go out on the 4th of July and not have anybody within a mile each way on the beach where I go. Got to love that!

If I'm going to be in a pool I prefer my own. Growing up we used to live in Southfield and we had 2 public pools. But as I got older the film of oil on the top started to gross me out. I'm not familiar with your area, but out where I live the pools are located at the High Schools and are really nice.
Regarding the creepy crawlies in the lake? I've swam in countless lakes and never had a leach on me. To the best of my knowledge I've only known them to be around rocks and muck along the shorelines. Beaches? Good. Middle of the lake? Good.

Please, if you do come to a lake -- especially one of the five Great Lakes -- please be sure you and your children can swim. Living in Holland, we annually hear at least one horror story about children who do not live near water who then visit our beaches and never go home again.

Often they are inner-city kids who are brought to the lake by well-intentioned people through well intentioned programs. Some of these kids have never seen a body of water like Lake Michigan!

Here in our area, almost all public school children are essentially drown-proofed in lower elementary grades by mandatory swimming lessons, etc. They are taught to respect the power of the lake and often how to handle currents, rip currents, undertows and other dangers.

No need to fear the water, but respect the power! We want you to keep coming back again and again!

I split time between FL and MI and usually don't have a lot of good to say about MI, but it's one catagory that MI whips any state and that is it's lakes.

It is so wonderful to go swimming in a perfectly cool temperture lake and not have to worry about getting gator bit, snake bit, deadly amobeas, excessive pollution, etc.

Three Mile lake, Lake Cora, and Lake MI when it's warm enough. Couldn't imagine wasting money on a pool up here.
