When I was in Utica last summer we couldn't find any public pools. We asked our neighbors who had lived in the area for years where to swim. They said the metro park lake. We ended up joining Lifetime Fitness because they had a pool.
Are there any public swimming pools around there?? |

We did wade around in the Metro lake near Utica. I was impressed with the roped off areas and the life guards in their stands....but sadly the day after we were there a nine year old boy drowned in the roped off area. I want to put my kids in swimming lessons when we get there, so I will need a pool for that. Of course with all the houses with outdoor pools maybe I will just find some friendly neighbors, lol. |

Yuck - I don't do lakes. LOL! Probably because I'm from Texas, and our lakes are murky and water moccasins swim in them. I will always be nervous of snakes in the lake. And I hate the muddy sand, too. We belong to Lifetime. In the summer, I take the kids to the Novi location because the pool isn't as crowded and I can watch them better. Which location do you belong to? I have a really good swimming instructor at the Commerce location, if you go there. My young child is doing great with her! |

I have no problem swimming in the lakes here in the north. For the most part they are clear as crystal. Kinda cold but very nice. You still have to be kinda careful to check with people that live on or near some of these lakes as there could be the problem of swimmers itch. I've gotten into that and it will drive you nuts for a while. But a lake like Higgins is awesome. Soft sandy bottom and clear water.

The Macomb Township Rec Center has a nice indoor pool with kids splash zone. (25 Mile Rd between Romeo Plank and North). $5 a day for residents and $10 for nonresidents, with membership prices available.

We used to go to Metro Beach a lot last summer- they had a pool, which we used- when you stand on the edge of Lake St. Clair, it's like...well, slimy things rolling up to the edge, which just grossed me out, lol- yeah, yeah- I guess it's true, I'm a wimp!
