Default Ann Arbor Sprawl

In which direction is ann arbor sprawling? How quickly? Is the city doing anything to help keep it in check?
Thanks!

Ann Arbor develop, like all Michigan development is very slow. But recently I have seen a lot of new sprawling in the North-west section of the city (Scio Township, and Dexter). Also in the South-west (Pittsfield Twp, and the Saline Area). The Eastern part of the city is slow because it is close to Ypsilanti. How quickly? Well not very fast at this point because of of bad economy. But in 2003-04-05 the N-West and S-East parts of the city and outer townships were growing very fast. I believe this area was the fastest growing in the state of Michigan, it most likely still is today even with the economy slump.

I vaguely recall some sort of PDR (purchase of development rights) campaign about 10 years ago when I lived there.

I lived in the southern U.S. for 27 years. Some of Michigan's cities (GR, A2) may be growing a bit, but they will never have true "sprawl". Not in any of our lifetimes.

Atlanta has sprawl. Houston has sprawl. Ann Arbor does not.
