Ideas for Made in MI welcome baskets?
My friend is getting married at the end of next month and I'm a bridesmaid. She's come up with an idea for the welcome baskets that we'll place in the out of towners hotel rooms.
Besides the usual welcome basket goodies we've got the idea for some Michigan-centric items as these people have never been here much less anywhere near the midwest.
Now if I'm right, Faygo pop is only made in MI, right? Other than that, we really can't think of much else, lol. What about fudge from Mackinaw? Does anyone have a source to buy it online? Could google, but if you have a fav site, please share!
Any other Ideas? TIA for any suggestions.

What about a trinket made with a Petoskey Stone. It is harder to find Vernors outside of MI than any other soft drink made in Michigan.

There are several stores in Detroit (and probably one at the airport) that sell only uniquely local items. I think that it is called the Detroit Store. One is int he guardian building, and one in the Fisher. I have heard that there is one at the airport as well. Probably more elsewhere.
If you have time, maybe you could go and buy or order some junk from Hell Michigan. That is unique to here.
Do not forget some U-M memorbilia as well.

Most Mackinac fudge places will mail order. I would recommend Ryba's, after going to the island many years, it is the best. Joann's is okay though.
How about Better Made Chips?

ryba's is good, but my problem with it is you can get it in chicago, and other places throughout the state, so joann's is a little more unique........

That is true, they do have one location in Chicago, however Harry Ryba and the Ryba family go way mack. Joann's is owned by the Nephew's, another OLD Mackinac name. Murdick's is also good, and very original. I don't care for May's...except that they sell divinity sometimes. And Kilwin's is nationwide.

all true......i always knew more people at joanns so i got my fudge for free there
Kilwin's is a michigan name, i happen to know the neice of Katy Kilwin who has the original chocolate recipe, so even though there are stores all over, it is a northern michigan original
