The Lake Michigan shoreline beaches are amazing at night under a clear summer sky. It would make for a nice little road trip for you. If you feel like pumping $4.20 a gallon through the Hummer.

In the SE area I would suggest the countryside around Sarnia, Canada for a day trip out of the city. In the Detroit area... Well, not much to smile about there. Algonac is a nice little few hour tour from the city. Gets nice and quiet out there. Kinda a dumpy place though. Dang, everything else around there is a new subdivision or a parking lot. Really depressing. I don't even bother to go over there anymore unless I absolutely have to.

I would also agree with the trip through Pinckney and Hell. Sounds like a bit of a downer, but it's actually a very nice ride.

If you're into bed & breakfasts, I would suggest The English Inn. It's just south of Lansing in Eaton Rapids. My husband and I got married and had our reception there.

The inn is a large Tudor style home with gardens, and a river runs along the back of the land. The restaurant is also very good (it's not mom & pop) and the bottom floor has a pub.

Here's the website if you want to look into it: English Inn - Eaton Rapids, Mid-Michigan

lol - I was thinking a nice stroll along the Lk St Claire shoreline amongst all the trash and dead carp would be right behind this one on the romance scale.
