What's wrong with trying to turn TC into Gross Pointe? TC is a beautiful area but needs to be more progressive. TC is nice but 20 yrs behind the times in many respects. Things are changing, albeit slowly.

Why not just move to Gross Pointe if one wants to live in a place like Gross Pointe? Some people probably like Traverse City because it's more laid back, smaller, a bit isolated.

Jswee- I totally agree with you. People move here to get away from the big cities they are from and then turn around and want to make TC like their former homes. Those people should just remain visitors.
Peter, you are sounding like a snob again, but I have to say, most people from NYC do seem to think it is the be all to end all. I never have been able to figure out why.

One thing about Mi. I miss,,,and I've been all over this country during my life time and no other state can comes close to "colors of Autumn", in MI. The leaves in the fall are beautiful. It's something I've never forgotten.
So.. let me ask those from TC a question...............
In 2004 & 2006 I flew back to Ohio from Ca. , rented a car in Columbus and drove up through Mi, making stops on both sides of the state to vist friends and relatives, {Monroe, Sterling Heights, Roseville and Chesterfield.} My main stop was my home town Cadillac. Then from there I drove up through TC and up to Cheboygen & Mackinaw City.
I'm sorry........my question is...In 2006 when I drove into Cadillac I passed some "Amish" just on the outskirts. I was surprised.
I have nothing against them,I was just curious to know, have the Amish Families added to the population in TC?

What is wrong with improving TC? Only the ignorant would ignore aspects which would improve the quality of life. I enjoy bowling. When I go to Timber Lanes, I can't go to the gym for 2 days. It's a cancer cluster that reminds me of 1978. The rest of the country has progressed. TC will soon enough

true- mennonite's use some modern conveniences- but their dress is similar to amish-only they use different colors-but you might see mennonites driving a car but wearing very very simple clothing

With gasoline prices headed the way they are, maybe it is their preference now, we may see horse and buggy becoming the preference of many more people.

What "improvements" were you thinking of? The down staters are to northern Michigan what the Californians are to the rest of the western states -- people with lots of money who want to escape their neighborhood only to try to create a replica of it wherever they go.
