I was originally born in Owosso back in 1982. My parents resided down to South Florida when I was first born. How is Michigan these days? I am 37 now and I have not been there to visit or see anything since I was 17. I am a medical marijuana patient in Florida and I know it just went recreational so thats a plus. Im really focusing more on where to go to land a decent job and such. Can anyone enlighten me with some details of what to expect? Im planning on moving back within 6 months

Depends on what part of MI you plan on relocating. Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Kalamazoo all seem to have strong job markets currently.

We came home to Michigan after a hiatus in Pennsylvania and SWFL (Naples). We are in Oakland County. What kind of job would you be looking for? What type of community is most appealing to you?

I recently visited Michigan and I can assure you that Owosso, Flint, Saginaw and other central Michigan locations are not the place to choose. Since 1982 the Flint area (owosso is only 20 miles from Flint) have declined beyond belief. That area of Michigan is in a very sad state. The Great Recession destroyed Flint and it’s surrounding communities.

Other areas of Michigan are a much much better choice. The nicest part of Michigan with the healthiest economy is west Michigan. Grand Rapids is very popular. Traverse City has more limited job opportunities but it is also a great place to be if you can find a job. Traverse city and the surrounding area is likely the nicest place in the entire Midwest to live.

The other obvious area to look is suburban Detroit or Ann Arbor. Those areas have recovered quite well and jobs can be had if you like a more big town environment.

I will be upfront about the fact that I am an ex Michigan resident who has not lived up there in quite a few years. I do visit once or twice a year and I keep up with what is going on up there. My opinions are informed but Keep in mind I do not live there. I figured I would disclose that fact in my post before someone in the forum who may not like what I posted pointed it out anyway.
