Default Planning a Day Trip about 1 1/2 hours from Detroit

Hey guys,

My mom, grandma, and I are planning to take a day trip somewhere this weekend. We were considering Frankenmuth or Port Huron, and may still go this way, but we've gone to both sooooo many times, and I would really like to see someplace different. We don't want to travel more than about the distance to these places, which is an hour and a half.

Since I'll be with these two people the trip should be pretty family oriented, maybe have a good place to get something to eat, some interesting stores/shopping, or maybe some sights...we do like looking at old houses but there should be more than that.

I have visited Monroe before, and don't really want to visit Hell. I considered seeing some towns around the middle of the state, Owosso and the like, but not sure. I just did a whole lot of looking around about Owosso and it seems like a really neat place. Is there decent shopping and/or any good restaurants?

I plan on going to Ann Arbor another time, so I'm ruling that out. Don't really think there's much to see in Jackson, or Lansing though there are smaller cities around there...Is there anything in Imlay City?...Would be nice to see some water, but I've seen everything on this side of the state up to Port Austin and the west coast is a little far. We do want to get out of the metro area. Any suggestions?

Anyone have anything to say about Mid-Michigan or Owosso/Chesaning/Flushing area? Really was thinking of Grand Rapids also, but my mom doesn't want to travel 2 hours.
