Can you imagine being a Phoenix native though? Having the population grow that much in that short of time and seeing your home change so much would, for me at least me horrible.

Well, to keep everyone updated (not that they all want to know, mind you), I have received a few inquiries from companies in the Detroit Metro Area (I shall not name them here due to the possibility of pending job offers). It's only been 2 weeks since I submitted my resume to an online job search site and I'm starting to see results. Is this the norm or is it more of the 'get a lot of nibbles but no bites' syndrome?
My brother is also questioning my sanity after asking him about the companies that have taken an interest in me. I am now convinced, more than ever, that I am a certifiable nut. But, if you've lived out here for as long as I have (1985) and been away that long (except for brief visits every so in-often), you'd see my point too - of that I am sure!

I'm a nut too, people tell me so all the time since I moved from San Diego.
If you have a specialized training or education finding a job is not hard here. My BF had offers within a month and the phone still rings occasionally checking up on him.

I'm in a similar boat as some of you as well. Moved to AZ in '94 and enjoyed the first year or so, but then went to school and got a job so I ended up staying here a lot longer than expected. I try to keep a positive outlook and not complain too much about living here....making the best of it for the time being. But, I'm hoping to only have to be here another couple years and finally getting out for good and moving back home to Michigan!!

Another update: I was supposed to do a telephone interview, but they decided to interview some of the local talent first. However, according to my sources, the local talent doesn't have my qualifications. So, it's more of the waiting game while I scope out property in and around the southeastern Michigan area.
Meanwhile, the wind stopped blowing sometime yesterday and most of the forest fires have had ground gained back on them - albeit not as much as they'd like. Imagine having the wind blow 30-40 miles an hour with gusts up to 60 for days and even weeks on end. The dust around here is stifling me!!

I think that's a good post. Some people can really never move away from home, they're miserable if they have to live on a block different from the one of their childhood home. Others are gypsy spirits and most people are somewhere in between, some like the adventure of moving, or they will settle some where that the weather suits them.
Others will live where they hate the weather just for the money and be miserable and homesick. Some people love cold cloudy days and they curl up indoors, or they love the winter sports and summer sports and require 4 seasons, others are never bored with the sun and clear blue skies and warm weather outdoor activities.
Home is where the heart is.

Good luck with that job interview. I think the Las Cruces area is one of the most beautiful, stunning regions anywhere. Very mild weather but if you're used to northern Michigan, you might take a summer to adjust to the higher altitude, summer heat and arid climate.
If you do end up moving there, carry around an iced tea at least the hours between 1pm and 3pm, the rest of the day won't be too hot, get out and see the sights, get up to the cool pine mountains -- they're in all directins.

My wife is from Las Cruces.
5 hour drive from here (Phoenix).
Cruces is like East Lansing & Alma put together.
I think it's a cool little town, but wifey sez she'd never live there again.
If you decide to live there, you're gonna get hooked on Hatch green chiles & pecans. Dining in Old Mesilla is the best, and the fishing in Truth or Consequences is great!

I lived in MI for forty years; here in AZ for four.
I find the desert stunning & peaceful at the same time. My first summer here was the hardest...does it ever get below 108 degrees?
I gotta tell ya though, from late September through mid May, it's paradise here.
Hey, it's a dry heat....
