It is highly likely. I lived in Kansas for two years, and when I changed my License Back to Michigan I received the exact same number i had for years and years...it has to do with your name, so it should be somewhat similar to what you had before.

I was gone for 18 years and I think I got the same number back. It has some of the same combinations that I remember. It is hard to remember after 18 years, but at least three of the number combinations are the same, I remember them because they related to other numbers in my life.

Why would you miss Michigan?

There are two types of people in Michigan:
- The people who love snow, cold, dreary weather & having nothing to do except ski, hunt and/or sail 24/7
- The sane people who are not fans of any of the above

Dagnabit, you should do what you want to. Albuquerque is probably the nicest large city in the southwest for its quality of life. No it's not perfect – the traffic on the I-40 seems crazy – but I personally feel very much at home in ABQ. I don't live there, but I visit all the time. I only live in Michigan because I have to – therefore I have learned to like it. I believe that focusing on the positives (about MI) has helped me to feel more fulfilled.

I personally greatly enjoy the openness of the high desert, Sandia Mts, proximity to awesome hiking and mountain biking, great southwestern cuisine, down-to-earth mindset (though I do not like the drunk drivers), everyone seems to wake up early to go out to breakfast, etc.. For it's scenery, northern NM is a tough part of the country to beat.

Michigan on the other hand, while it's perceived economically depressed qualities make everything just a little more miserable – is full of trees and forests, lakes!!, and who can beat the UP with it's rural charm.

I personally have learned to not mind the 6" of white stuff outside in the winter, but I certainly would love to move to Rio Rancho or NE ABQ.

Just thought I'd drop in for an update - seeing as how there has been a little bit of activity on this thread.

I had a telephone interview with a prospective employer last week and he seems very anxious to get me on board there. He now needs to get with his boss to nail down how much they want to offer in pay to get me to move out there. So, until a formal offer is extended, I haven't done anything as far as putting the house on the market or looks real hard at housing opportunities in Michigan - yet.

I don't know if you were born in Michigan, Windfarmer, but I do agree with you on New Mexico's beauty - however different from Michigan's it really is. The mountain vistas and terrain are breathtaking sometimes; especially during sunrises and sunsets. But, that being said, I've always wanted a place where I had a couple of acres that I could call my own and where my neighbor is more than a stone's throw away to say 'Good Morning' to, not 2-3 feet as they are here in Albuquerque. Granted, I lived in the suburbs of Detroit for many years and know how the houses are packed in there like so many sardines in a can! But, I am not willing to pay the price they are asking for property here in the mountains for a bit of acreage - sometimes 3-4 times what the property is worth, especially when you have to truck you own water in there during the summer.

The economy is what you make of it, I expect. If you listen to the news media and hear that the economy is depressed - even though it is still growing; just not as much as what the experts have predicted. What kind of crock is THAT coming from?? At any length, yes the economy is a bit depressed in Michigan - but only if you're a non-educated auto worker that went from graduating high school to punching the timeclock in one of the Big 3's factories hoping the union would protect you. I don't have that much of an education (associates degree), but I DO have a skill and have had a lot of inquiries about my resume on the Monster.com website. They are contacting me - not the other way around!

So, for you to say the economy is depressed in Michigan, well - if you listen to the news media it's depressed all over. However, I haven't seen it in my world.

Well, congrats on the interested company! That is great. I agree with you about a lot of what you say about MI. I have lived here over 40 yrs (only place I have lived)and sometimes I detest it (winter) and other times it is truly home. Yes it is relatively flat, freezing in the winter and snowblowing stinks, humidity full of mosquitoes in the summer and we have more than our share of gray, cloudy, rainy days but we do have green vegetation, tons of lakes, the Great Lakes, the UP, Mackinaw Island and pretty darn good sports teams (not counting the Lions, but I love 'em). I grew up camping at all the state parks and I still love camping. Unfortunately, we are in a economic slump and my husband is getting transferred to Vegas. Yep, desert for sure. Browns, tans and tract housing with HOAs. Not so sure about this at all. I always thought living somewhere else would be interesting, as I never have, but now that the reality is upon me, I am basically freaking about it. Obviously, I won't be able to sell my home here as the market is cold, so I will have a place to come back to when I want to.

Now that I read how many of you miss it, I feel even more that I will be back sooner than later. Plus, I will be taking one 14 yo daughter and leaving 3 other kids here among my other family.

Thanks for the updates, I love reading how people are getting along after their initial post! Good luck, I hope you get the job. The housing part will be a cinch-at least the buying part!

you are not crazy for wanting to move to family. but for everyones sake I would have them move to where you are, it is most certainly better any where else in the country than Michigan.

Anywhere else in the country? Heck no. I'd rather live in Michigan than a lot of other states. Maybe you just need to move out of essexville and somewhere better like....Midland
