I grew up in metro NYC where smoking was banned in EVERY bar & restaurant 8 yrs ago. If you own a business, would you cater to the 15% of the population that smokes or the 85% who do not?

The employees also have the choice as to whether they work in a bar or restaurant where smoking is permitted. It is up to the owners, or should be as to whether they allow smoking in their establishment. What does NYC have to do with anything? TC isn't and doesn't want to be a NYC.

As far as employees having a choice? How much more clueless can you possibly be, especially with the so many jobs available in Northern Michigan!!!!
Einstein, I grew up near NYC & saw first hand the benefits of banning smoking in bars & restaurants, namely establishments that made larger profits after banning smoking. Also, smokers are mostly slobs as well. How often do you see them flicking butts out the window while driving? Fortunately, the Senate has picked up the clue phone. Welcome to 2008! Traverse City Record-Eagle - Mich. Senate passes smoking ban bill

It isn't that hard to get a job in a hotel or restaurant in TC, there are always low paying jobs here, Einstein.

LMAO! That cracked me up! That is my daughters favorite place to eat in town. It's the first place she wants to go when she visits! I personally like their red meat wet burritos, they are yummy!
They are really nice there too. I asked if I could buy one of their t-shirts to send to my daughter who is stationed in Baghdad and they gave me one for her for nothing to send to her. I need to remind her to take a picture of herself wearing it over there to give to them. Taco House has fans all over. ;-)

I love North Peak Brewing Company for lunch or dinner. Poppycocks is great for lunch. Cafe Amical (downtown) is good for a European dining experience (and lovely outdoor cafe seating). Happy eating!!

Hands down...
CAFE AMICAL. My husband and I have dined at lots of places in Traverse, but we always come back to Cafe Amical. The food is consistently good and they have the best coffee too. It's best to make reservations for evening dining due to it's popularity. Don't forget to make room for dessert!

I remember Amical. That's right downtown on the north side of Front St isn't it? It's been a long time and only a couple visits, but I remember them having some really good quiche.
