For those in the Ann Arbor area - which supermarkets do you visit the most? (Ypsilanti: travel)

When I was in AA, tended to bounce around from place to place, depending on where I felt like driving at the time. I didn't visit stores on the far west or north sides as much, since I was living near the UM campus, and it seemed easier to head east on Washtenaw, or south on Main St.

The biggest stores seemed to be the two Meijer's outlets - the one on Carpenter Road southeast of town, and the one on the Ann Arbor-Saline Rd. directly south of the freeway. UM students seemed to either visit the small Kroger's outlet south of Stadium Blvd. (along with the nearby "Produce Station"), or otherwise travel over to the Trader Joe's/Whole Foods/Hiller's Market stores on Washtenaw, or the Busch's market on S. Main. The rich kids did as much shopping at Zingerman's Deli as possible, or from the shops in that Kerrytown development.

Aside from the traditional supermarkets, I ended up buying a lot of food from that strip of Mideastern/Indian stores on Packard St. (especially vegetables and backlava trays for parties), along with the Chinese supermarket that opened up near Ypsilanti (the Hua Xing market, I think).

The local Sam's Club was a couple miles south of town along the freeway to Toledo, Ohio, as I recall. And the nearest Wal-Mart Supercenter was about 25 miles north of town near Howell, as I recall. I didn't visit those places very often.

Where do other AA folks end up grocery shopping?

Busch's grocery store, or I go up to Brighton (Green Oak twp) to Costco, to buy in bulk.

Costco's a big one. I typically go to Plum Market, though. All the Kroger's and Busch's in the area are pretty gross.

What do you mean the Busch's are gross?? All of the Busch's that I have ever been to are very nice stores, Kroger is usually kept up well and nice also.

Whole Foods!! And when I am in the mood to spend even more money I make trader joe's a stop ever now and then...I think Busch's is decent but whole foods has the most selection bar none.

I come from Birmingham. So compare the Kroger on 15 & Woodward or the one on 15 & Lahser or 15 & Telegraph to anyone here in Ann Arbor and you'll know what I'm talking about. The only Kroge that I'll even shop at in the area is the one up on Plymouth Road.

We live in Brownstown and when we take the kids to The Hands On Museum, I try to go to Busch's. I LOVE that store. We lived near the Farmington store and that was good, but the A2 store is the corporate headquarters. I love it!!! We live near the Rockwood store, not nearly as nice.
