Want to move
Hi I live in Romulus which is OK but we would really like to relocate to a small town in Michigan with cheap housing and safe area. Ideal would be a small town with good shops dosen't have to have a mall or anyting but grocery store etc. Would like to find a place near water and a town that is not dieing just small. Don't want the UP as it is too far from family but something in lower Michigan would be ideal. Any ideas folks oh cheap housing is a must. Diane

I live in New Haven, which is a small town but has neither a body of water by it or nice shops! We have inexpensive housing though and are around alot of orchards. We also have low crime. I might suggest Anchor Bay, Romeo, Armada, Richmond, or Marysville. I have found these areas to be quite nice, friendly and void of traffic, smog, overcrowding!!!
Good Luck! It's pretty out here!
BTW, my husband works in Melvindale, pretty close to Romulus I believe. SO I kinda know the area. It is definately overcrowded there. Check out the places I mentioned, might find something you like!

Still looking
Hi I looked up housing data on Marysville, Armada etc and found while they are cheaper than many areas it is not cheap enough for me. I am looking for houses in safe area 3 bedrooms 2 baths no more than sixty five thousand I know that is not a lot but it is what I can afford. We like small towns and if I wanted to go to the UP I could get a house for about 25000 but it is a little too far. Any more ideas guys. I am willing to go up to 300 miles from the big D. Thanks Diane Eileen

Hi. Just a thought, but with so many folks leaving the state due to layoffs, you might just find a place to rent with an option to buy. I live in Marysville and it is exactly as you described as your 'ideal'. But 65k for a home that's 'move-in' condition you won't find, not even in Detroit. Good luck

$65,000 is kinda tough to find, your gonna have to go further up into the thumb, maybe Sandusky, Deckerville, etc.. I would stay away from New Haven. Someone mentioned Marysville, that is a very nice city. The Richmond/Armada area is really building up alot and will soon be overpopulated, they are great areas, but if your looking for something cheaper and away from it all your gonna have to go further up north. (or out of state)

Try looking into North Branch, Deerfield Township, outskirts of Lapeer, (the city-not county) Lum, Attica, Marlette, outskirts of Mayville, Brown City, outskirts of Columbiaville.(etc.)
You'll find many places in the 'thumb' for the price you're looking for! It is best to get a local paper of the 'thumb'/ communities for more info. It even helps to talk to the locals to get a better idea and possibly a better deal/'steal' on a place in the thumb!
I personally like North Branch! If i were do it over again, I'd move there!

Harrison MI is a nice small town. No large shops, but within 25 minutes to Walmart and such in Houghton Lake. Mt. Pleasant is 40 minutes to the south and there is a lot of work there. Harrison is very small and quiant little town, smack in the middle of the state. We have low housing cost, 20 lakes within 20 minutes in the town moto. Crime is relatively nonexistant here. I have no problem walking down my road after dark, without looking over my shoulder.

Have you ever thought of the Thumb area? My mom lives in the Croswell Lexington area. It is right by Lake Huron. It's very laidback The only drawback is you may have to drive far to work, etc. But, I thought I'd mention it
Best of luck in your search
