*Blast! I meant CherrY Hill of course.
Wow! Drove around the area and didn't even feel like I was in Canton. Really loved it and so did hubby. We're looking to move and would love any info and opinions from "real" people. One concern I have is what if it doesn't pan out? I can see what they are going for but there is still a lot of open retail space and empty homes. Also, what's the opinion of the people on the other side of Canton (more over by Ikea and the like). Do they consider those moving over to the Village snobs? Separaritists? Dummies? Any word on people already living there what the homes are like? Don't want to buy and then have tile cracking five years later. What used to be over there anyway? Thanks for any scoops! |

We loved it too. We looked there about 3 years ago. I can tell you that when we went back and looked at the models a few months ago, they were really in disrepair, especially needing maintentance on the outside.
Additionally, my husband had a friend that was a Canton Firefighter. We once mentioned that we were looking at Cherry Hill Village and he said that the houses are so close to together that if one caught fire, it would be disasterous.... Not that you expect a fire, but when a fire fighter makes a comment like that, you take pause. |

I know someone who lives there and as far as I know he likes it. The homes are beautiful. I haven't been there in about 3-4 years (sometimes go to the Cider Mill at Napier and Warren, but take Warren) and I was actually out near there earlier today (near the IKEA). I have heard there is a lot of downtown type things there now. The community from what I can tell is very close knit and nice. More "eastern" Canton tends to have a mix of smaller homes and big ones, I know of some people in these areas also. I wouldn't call Canton snobby at all, but eastern Canton seems to lack personality, which I think was the idea behind your post.
I think there used to be a place there called Cherry Hill Village awhile ago, and they are building this one in the spirit of the old. Found this: Cherry Hill Village: new urbanism in Canton, Michigan | Cyburbia - urban planning community WOW. This guy had also not been there in 4 years. I can't believe how Cherry Hill Road looks at Independence Street. Looks very cool. It's too bad they couldn't keep some of the trees when they cleared the area (though it was a field...) because the one drawback I see is how desolate it looks. You have to remember the center of Canton really is around Canton Center and Cherry Hill Rd, so that's where their township hall, Heritage Park, etc is. It is also about 3 miles from this area, which separates it a bit. Take that as you may. |
