Default Narrowed it to Alma and Coldwater area's

Hi, I posted about looking for an affordable small town following some good advice from this forum I have been looking into Alma and Cold Water, I know Alma is more active and more things to do but Cold Water is cheaper. Does anyone have any info on Cold water that could sway me towards Alma. LOL I really like the sound of Alma but housing is way cheaper in Cold water. GOing to take a drive this week. Diane

Default Lived in Coldwater 7 years

Hi,
I moved to Coldwater 7 years ago and it has been good but difficult at times. We feel that the area is extremely boring in the winter. There is nothing to do, but I don't think Alma has much to offer either. You have to travel quite a distance for any ski resort. Shopping is not the best. There are the basic Meijers and Walmart for groceries and such, but any real clothing shopping you must go to either Battle Creek (30 miles) which is not the best shopping or to Lansing (60 miles) or Fort Wayne (45 miles). We like Fort Wayne the best. There are no beaches in the summer, so to access the water that is all around you must have a boat.

The cost of living is good. But the job market is very tight. Over the last several months it has improved some, but not much. The mortgage foreclosure rate is high which attests to the state of the job market.

I live about 20min or so from Coldwater and go there several times a month for shopping..dont' know much about housing or the work force..I think there's alot of retail work and factory work..but I could be wrong.

There isnt a whole lot to do in Coldwater...but luckly...Coldwater isn't far from Battle Creek or Kzoo...lots of things to do there.
