Trout Lake (Chippewa Co) MI Arrests 26 Undocumented Employees of "protected" USFS Contractor
On May 8, 2008, approximately 26 improperly documented workers of a contractor retained by the US Forest Service were arrested in Trout Lake [Chippewa County], Michigan, according to reports in the Associated Press, Traverse-City Record-Eagle & The Sault [Sault Sainte Marie, MI] Evening News.
The identity of the contractor is well-hidden despite my repeated written inquiries to the Secretary of the US Department of Agriculture, of which the US Forest Service is a department; US Senator Carl Levin; US Representative Bart Stupak, First MI congressional district; USFS Ranger Steve Christiansen, Hiawatha Forest; Tammy R. Thompson, USFS Contracting Officer; and CNN Anchor, Lou Dobbs.
This and other contracts are bid, awarded & compensated in public with the use of public funds. Therefore, this information is neither secret nor arcane!
With the expiration of employer requirements to verify applicant eligibility set to expire in November, 2008, I think that this small incident is very embarrassing to those corporate/political interests with a dedicated bottom-line interest in the preservation of vast pools of cheap labor.
Further, upon review of the varied sources of information I have contacted to learn not only the identity but also the contractual and criminal consequences of these arrests, it seems apparent that this individual/corporation quite possibly has contracts with USDA, USFS, & who knows who else.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance fellow members of this Forum could provide in assisting me to determine the facts & to assist in the timely criminal prosecution of the contractor who is clearly profiting from this example of misappropriation of public funds.
For those of you who have yet to visit our beautiful, remote region, Trout Lake is a small hamlet, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, a little more than an hour's drive from the Canadian border. Recent we enjoyed a decrease in unemployment: From 9.2% to 8.9%
Thank you, in advance, for advancing these concerns.
