Default Michigan: a poetic primer

Here's a poem about Michigan that appeared in The New Yorker (5/19/08).

A Primer: Poetry: The New Yorker

eh.

Not a particularly profound, insightful, or revealing poem about Michigan.

A few good parts - I like the UP as a spare state and the left hand / right hand differentiation based on perspective and childhood art classes.

The point of the poem was to be a primer about Michigan and I don't really feel it primed me to know from where the author came.

Wow, guess I am out of the loop when it comes to poems because that was disjointed and rambling to me. Then again, it fits "The New Yorker" perfectly.
