I love how some people think they are not going to be affected by the current economic trouble. I would not want to bet on flakes future.
You would think that wouldnt you......but its not true. Construction is booming in other state, which they do work for. They are expanding the foundry, buying smaller foundries (which gives them even more work) and my husband will be on over time all summer. Sorry that our good fortune makes you feel bad.......and fyi, they make much more than sewer lids, lol!

and another fyi, I will not be back to this thread to see what other drivel that is posted about things I know first hand. I shouldnt have to defend my husbands job or or happiness. I am amazed at the people here who just want to drag you down if things are going well for you. Sorry things are not going so well for some, but not everyone is gloom and doom and having a hard time.

Oh, the state is doing that. The problem is that 49 other states have the same idea.

One issue that I rarely see discussed in the newspaper is the issue of the overall business climate. Just how expensive are state regulations (not direct taxes) on businesses--environmental costs, labor laws, laws that make it easier for employees to sue, etc.

Business leadership needs a reality check. Michigan seems to have a problem with not hiring the best people for the job. ... The nepotism up here is unbelieveable. A temp service sends me too a factory awhile back and heres this 18 year old kid supervising a department. I mention to another temp he looks a little young, the temp agrees and hes dumb too, but his dad is one of the higher-ups in the Co. To much of that going on.
You're laying it on kinda think if you expect anyone to believe that Michigan has a monopoly on nepotism. I have a hard time believing that the same sort of thing doesn't happen in other states.

Spout whatever nonsense you need to to make yourself feel better. My husband actually works side by side with the Malpasses, I think I know just a bit more than you do.
My husband is from E. Jordan. He worked at EJIW right before attending college. His dad was also an engineer there. They are a good company who treats their employees well and it's great to hear that business is booming. The Charlevoix / EJ area is beautiful.

He's pretty much gotten a job for all of his friends and even a few acquaitances that were looking, there's nobody left we know that needs a job, lol.

I'd have to ask him first, but if you are truly an IT person looking for work I could give you his email and he could pass along his offers as he doesn't need them.

Not only would it be good karma for me to help but I'm so tired of hearing about how terrible things are here that I'd like to show people that no, the sky hasn't fallen, lol!
My job was CSR/helpdesk. I don't know where you live but unemployment is 8.5 percent here in Saginaw. For each job available, there are about 500 applicants. Sounds like your husband's job is fairly secure...but then again, I thought mine was too.

I worked HR for a company in California, we hired the CFO's son, the son's college roommate, the college roommate's high school buddy. It became ridiculous if you were not related to or a friend of someone related to the CEO or CFO you could not get a job at that company. These kids just out of college who never even had a part time job before and were mostly lazy and not very bright were hired in at the top end of the salary scale and thought they deserved it, their sense of entitlement was nauseating.

That happens everywhere.

We live in metro detroit. That's funny, my husband did get one of the kid's he supervises in the guard a job down at the help desk. My husband doesn't do that kind of work but there was an opening and he encouraged him to send his resume and then my hubby put a good word in for him.

My husband's job is indeed secure. His company has holdings throughout the midwest. While anything is possible, it is highly unlikey his job status will change. However, if it does for any reason we are prepared. To be frank we have enough in savings to live (that means pay bills/mortage, buy food/gas, have insurance, etc..) for an entire year with no income. That didn't just happen though, we are savers, lol.

Sorry times are tough for you. Good luck and I hope you find something soon. I truly mean that.

There were a few people who had a positive attitude but they were people who did not have to work, I don't mean that they had retired but "worked" at a college.LOL and did not have to do any real work for a living. People that had to go out and make the country really work were hurting. Every one was so bummed that their homes were not worth anything and falling. Job's and friends were moving to better states.
It was so sad to go back.
To all those who want to move back home, be careful what you wish for you may get it.
You gotta be kidding me, right?
Yea, as you probabaly well know by all the replies you got, this place will be left to those who cannot evacuate, or are too stupid to do so, or who are preying on those who are left behind.

Default Forgotten Workers...

Lets not forget about the "discouraged workers", because we really do not know how many of them there are. If we rely soley on the local news to inform us of Michigan's economic picture, the stories are hand selected and tailored to their agenda. Often, the middile and smaller size companies are forgotten about, along with their job losses. When people say "this or that area is doing good" they are referring to what the news has said, or from the word of a few individuals who happen to have good fortune during a time of turbulance. For those who (for now) have stable and decent paying employment, have forgotten how many people in this state really are suffering. Does this mean that Michigan automatically is "goin down the drain"? No, but it is evident that the leadership in this state would rather not think about the people that have been unemployed for extended periods of time, but rather they are more concerend about bringing comapnies that fit their business moto and fulfill tax holes. Regardless of your position or status in a company, not being prepared for change is unwise.

Oh, its quite clear what the Government of Michigan thinks. It thinks we exist to provide it with revenue no matter what the cost, and that its job is to spend revenue, wether or not it has it to spend. PERIOD.

Granholm is typical of the tax and spend liberal dingbats. Tax them into prosperity for their own good, is her motto, because its not comming out of her pocket - shes part of the new american aristrocracy.

Since I started planning on my own evacuation of michigan 3 weeks ago, I have talked to over 200 people who have told me they are either preparing to leave, or are about to leave. Almost 300 have said they wish they could leave, but cannot due to family.

I am getting out. Planning on going to Texas, but with the recent phone calls, maybe to wisconson.

Either way, The exodus is still in full swing.

Last one out, please kick that moonbat gov'nor in her arse.. maybe she will then get the idea.

I'm working on leaving the state to move out to Denver, CO; however need to sell my house b4 that can happen. I feel for those who are trying to get out of their mortgages to live somewhere better and brighter.
