I could handle snow from Dec-Jan 1st. After that I am already looking forward to green grass, warmer weather and sunshine.

I can't really imagine sunny snow days. I know we get a few and when we do it is so nice. Crisp, clear and bright. Maybe we do need more of that in the winter.

Snow does not bother me as much as the frigid cold, though.

It's not just the snow. It's the constant cloud cover that goes with it. At least that was it for me. I'm heading for southern NM where people yearn for cloud cover or a light rain. I might eventually return to MI but I need to get away for a while to appreciate what is here.

I remember desperately yearning for a rainy, cloudy day when I lived out west. I never complain about MI weather anymore. My commute to work is through Hines Park, and I'm just in awe of the lush greenery. I got so sick of the brown and tiny shrubs.

HM, I dont think the gray days are all that bad, or that many either. It just comes with the season and is to be expected. I also remember plenty of beautiful sunny, snow-blinding days during the winter, its not gray ALL the time I guess its what you make of it.

Some of you make it sound like Michigan is constantly covered in grey clouds. I've done a lot of outdoor work in my life, and those 80 -105 degree days under the blazing Michigan sun in the summer get far more tiresome for me.

Funny - I guess I've never noticed excessive cloud cover. I do notice the cloudless skies when I'm in the SW and find that rather disconcerting. I'll have to pay attention next winter. Maybe I can get depressed too!

From a song:
"Sure do love that late summer and the Michigan breeze,
the moon on the water and the cottonwood trees."

The problem with depression people have when there are cloudy days is because they don't go outside. I used to get depressed in the winter, but I started walking outside everyday and it disappeared. There are very few days too cold to walk, lower MI does not have the bitter cold of Minnesota, or many northern states.

Also many people get depressed in sunny areas because the days are still shorter, it's not just lack of sun that causes depression, it's short days and indoor living. I was surprised to learn that SoCal actually gets less daylight (actual light, not just a time zone difference) something to do with where it's located on the earth.

lynmaz is on a distinguished road
I love Michigan. It is my home state. My daughter did her first year teaching in Florida about 4 years ago. I visited her 6 or 7 times that year. At first I thought it was really great. 2nd trip was ok. 3rd trip was post-hurricaine, need not expand on that. All trips after that were eye openers to all the things about Florida that I don't like. Wax-like grass, stucco galore (on and in every house), English as a 2nd language, hot, hot, hot and humid summers, toll booths on the roads we traveled, just to name a few. I personally would never live in Florida. She lasted 1 year, survived 4 hurricanes that year and never wants to live there again. She will be getting married this year and moving to Hawaii. I'll be visiting there soon and hopefully I will enjoy it. She loves it as she has been there often visiting her fiance who is also from Michigan. I can't see myself living anywhere else but Michigan, due to the fact our entire family resides here and we are very family oriented. My daughter says she will be back in 2 years when they plan on starting their family. Meanwhile I will continue to live in Michigan and look forward to vacationing in Hawaii every chance I get.

Not sure this link will work (my first time trying) shows how cloudy we are. But yes, for those of you that don't notice it, I give you kudos. Shows it does not slow you down and that is awesome.

When you have lived your entire life in a place where the sun SHINES most of the time, you definitely notice the grey, gloomy winter days here. But like another poster said, I have found that if you make SURE to get out every day - whether it be for a quick walk, a trip to the store, to the nail salon, whatever - then those days don't seem at all as gloomy. I never experienced that SAD thing people told me about, but I did make sure to go somewhere EVERY DAY during the winter!
