Ok, Michmoldman, tell me about Curwood Castle. Mt. Curwood in the Huron Mts used to be the highest point in MI, now it's Mt. Arvon a couple miles away (no the land didn't change, the measuring got better). I'm sure Curwood Castle has nothing to do with that other than the name.

Actually it was named in honor of James Curwood. The castle was built for him, and was used by him to write his books.

Interesting. And apparently Mt. Curwood was named for James Curwood, as well.

When I was a kid, our family not only had a Dairy Farm but we also did logging for the Forestry. We cut and hauled logs, mostly to a paper mill in Filer City,Mi., but we also delivered logs to some saw mills.
I remember a statue of Paul Bunyon. I think it was in Alpena,Mi. where I hear their saw mill is still in operation. I think there was some other statues of Paul Bunyon and his OX.
Does anyone know about these and are they still there? And if so, is anyone close enough to take a picture and post it here?

Really enjoying all of the pictures, folks.

I took this one a few weeks ago while up in Ocqueoc. This was taken at a Lake Huron roadside pulloff on 23.

Not too bad a picture for a cell phone shot. (Motorola Droid)

Here are a few we took this summer. These are from the beach in the campground at Onaway State Park. I spent much of my youth playing in this park, and it was pretty cool to go back as an adult with our kids.

Outside of a dive quarry or tap water, you just don't find water this clear in Ohio.

Here's one of my son and I playing in the pool at Ocqueoc Falls.
