How would you like to put your camera to use by take pictures(on request) of old grave sites from cemeteries in your area?
Let me know and I'll send you the link with instruction.
It's all volunteer and there's no money involved

This goes for anyone........

It's hidden in the island or lakeshore opposite the beach. I posted that particular photo because the others had the dust spot in the sky, in the upper left quadrant.

Sure, I'll check your other thread on the cemeteries. We have a really old one downtown San Bernardino, near my office, where many of the early settlers are buried. However, it isn't a safe place to be, even in the daytime. Lots of homeless hang around there. A few weeks ago the police shot and killed some guy who they believed had a gun.

There are a couple of nice ones elsewhere in the area, including the veterans' cemetery near Riverside.

Question, though - do the caretakers object to random strangers taking photos in their cemeteries?

The care takers have no say about who enters and who doesn't.

My Father in-law was a retired Brigadier General. He died in 05 and I went to his funeral and he was honored a 21 gun salute at Riverside Arlington cemetery

Joe Baca wanted to move that cemetery(downtown SB) and put in condos afew years ago, didn't he?

Is Josie Gonzales still the 5th District Supervisor?

Those spots caused by dust on the camera sensor can be easily removed by using software such as Photoshop...I do it all the time. Thanks for the Caseville beach shot with Charity Island in the background...I'll be up there all next week.

Military honors are an awesome thing. My father was your average swabby in the USN during WWII, but he had the 21-gun salute and all at his funeral. If there will be anyone left to care when I'm gone, as a USAF veteran, I would like the same.

I hadn't heard that about the move to put in condos, but I don't keep up with the local politics that much. However, there are several new homes that have been built in the last couple of years in the downtown area. There is also a small, 10-unit development of multi-use commercial/residential lofts as well.

Oh, and there was a move to make this huge artificial lake downtown, but I guess that's a no go.

The school district where I work has bought a couple of square blocks adjacent to the old cemetery, to build yet another elementary school.

Yes, Josie is still the 5th District Supervisor, and is Vice Chair.

Yes, thank you. Although, it's not so nice when I have to order 20 yards of bark mulch and put it down (every other year).

I'm with you. I see so many large homes with puny landscaping and I just can't believe it.

Went to the Potters Zoo with my son. I thought this thing was pretty cool.

Have you ever considered rubber mulch? Dupont makes one that is suppose to last 15 years, though it's more costly (like $12 for a small bag...you can find it at Lowe's). I've read a few reviews and the people that use it love it. 20 yards worth could be expensive short term, but not having to buy more every other year plus time spent spreading it all around has its benefits.

These fotos are the work of a cat called John E, who puts his stuff out on flickr. He takes the best urban fotos that I have seen of GR.
