If you look on the horizon you can see the Badger headed to Manitowoc, WI
On a side note, the water temps have been hovering in teh mid 70's the last few days here. Very nice!

House rule for us is that any day that is 75 and over, without raining, is a beach day for at least a couple of hours in the evening. We have spent a large amount of time at the beach .

Sun just about ready to duck behind Lake Michigan
Bydand:
These are beautiful pictures
Western Michigan is beautiful.
I don't know why we never went on vacations there when I was a kid.
We always went "up north".
I am in southeastern Michigan, fairly close to Lake Huron, sometimes called "the sunrise side".
Can someone, please answer a question for me?
Detroit was the "auto capitol" and almost everyone worked in the auto companies, in the old days.
What did the folks in western Michigan do for a living? The furniture companies, perhaps?
Thanks

Furniture and boats. Grand Rapids still has several furniture companies in it and here in the Ludington area we have some smaller divisions of Steelcase, Hayworth and others. If it wasn't those two industries, the next big money was/is orchards and farming. There is also the Dow Ludington plant which is the largest producer of Calcium Chloride in the world and has been since 1942 (bought out a couple months ago by Occidental Chemical).
A very simple video I made of Grand Haven beach, using my point-n-click Canon and Windows Movie Maker. Must have easily been 10,000 people there today.

Looks about right for Aug. . Same here today. A solid line of cars parked along the road for miles, and the State park packed. I wouldn't even hazard a guess how many people were at the beaches today.
Were all the parking spots... I mean sites, full of campers by the beach there in Grand Haven?

Oh yeah. If you know Grand Haven well, you'd sit in traffic for an hour to get to the lots near the beach, and they'd all have "lot full" gates on them (including the "camp" sites). Then you'd have to circle back around to downtown GH and walk the mile or two down the boardwalk to the beach. Don't know why I haven't learned just to park in town and walk in the first place.
It was a great day for wakeboarding. You can see the guys doing it along the shoreline to the left in some of the shots.

I always park in town so I can suddenly remember I need something at the little boat store down there, or feel the need for a great little sandwich or tid-bit to eat from Jumpin' Java. The DW knows it is a load, but she likes Coffee so she lets me think I'm getting away with something . Plus with the boat I'll have to go out and try whatever I bought, and she then has a free day to do what she wants without me there to foul it up, LOL.
Thanks for the info, Bydand. I've alway wondered about that. I have heard there are some fine vinyards/winerys there, too.
Again, great pictures.
Just a suggestion: You should have that picture, of the kids in the water, framed for each of them. I think they would treasure it, forever. A moment in time...
